It will help you fill in the application form if you understand the terminology and rules on the use of wings to see how they will effect you. It is assumed that when you make your General Declaration that you will have a specific crew combination in mind.

Mandatory bands are the weight limits that dictate whether you must race with or without wings and will always over ride any entries on your certificate.

Non Mandatory Band is when your combined weight and trapezing crew weight allows you to choose whether you prefer lo race with or without wings. This choice will be recorded on your certificate.

General Declaration dictates whether, when racing with an unspecified crew in the non mandatory band, your boat will sail with or without wings.

Dispensation Box provides for specified crew combinations to always sail with a configuration opposite to that chosen in the above owner's declaration. This box need only be filled in if you anticipate sometimes racing with a significantly different crew combination.

Advice on your choice of General Declaration :-

If you anticipate sailing with a variety of crews you are advised to opt to certificate WITH wings in which case you are obliged to always race with the wings on unless your trapezing crew is over 78 KGs in which case they must be taken off. Only if you are likely to race with a trapezing crew who may weigh under 78 KGs and you prefer sailing the ISO without the wings should you consider entering this pairing in the "dispensation box". If your helm is heavy and your normal trapezing crew is under 78 KGs and you prefer racing without wings, you might opt for the "WITHOUT wings" option in the General Declaration.

Please remember -

  1. If you suspect that your crew weight has varied and might have taken you into a mandatory band you should opt to be weighed before the start of a meeting.
  2. When racing with a specified crew pairing in the dispensation box you are obliged to always use that configuration (unless your crew weight falls into one of the mandatory bands).

Notes:
Mandatory Bands The ISO Class Rules stipulate that crews whose combined weight is below 138Kgs MUST race with wings attached unless the trapezing crews weight exceeds 78Kgs when wings are always prohibited. When racing at weights outside these mandatory bands, the owner must conform to the configurations on the cerftificate.
