2011 Dinghy Show - Our Best Yet!

The RYA 2011 Dinghy Show was over the 1st weekend in March as usual, 5th and 6th.

Our stand was right next to our main supplier, Rooster Sailing, and showed Tinky Winky resplendent in the new Rooster Sails, together with Rooster foil bags and the winners of the 2010 / 11 ISO Photo Competition.

The Rooster sail prices were announced at the Show, see web site home page, www.isoracing.org.uk, look fantastic and in the hands of Mike Lillywhite and crew Mark Riddington closed the 2010 season with a clean sweep of all three championships. So not only do they look good, they work and are available from Rooster now at a very attractive price. Rooster's usual Show discount immediately helped sale of sails along by selling three full sets and a couple of jibs over the show weekend. Didn't get your 10% discount ?? Pre-Inlands ISO Training Day

Well it was a bit wet and very windy for the training day. Rob Howlett and myself used an Annual Leave day each and our own personal time, so to ensure this training day happened. Mick and Matthew came down from Hartlepool with their boat and Hugh came across from Norfolk with his notepad and pen.

Inland Championships 2010

ISO Inland Nationals - Draycote Water S.C.

The 2010 ISO Inland National Championships were held at Draycote Water Sailing Club on 2nd and 3rd of October. A fleet of ten crews assembled on a warm autumn morning with a gentle force 2 wind blowing from the south. Many crews had travelled from the south coast and they were joined by boats from Yorkshire, Teesside and Scotland.

ODST Event - 18th & 19th September

Sept 18 and 19 in Bruinisse we joined the fantastic ODST. Conditions were wonderful again, a good blow, sun and a magnificient fleet of 70 skiff's from all of Europe. We found ourselves racing in Allcomers B ‘matched’ with 5 foiling Moths, an RS100, RS800, RS700, Laser 4000, two RS Vareo's and our ISO1001.

Thames Estuary Ingram Shield (26th September 2010)

In force 4-5 winds gusting 6 the five Clubs on the north shore of the Thames Estuary competed on 26 September for 5 long established trophies. There were 75 boats entered and the large majority started.

In the Ingram Shield a team of 3 ISOs from the Essex Yacht Club prevailed over teams of Dart 16s, Lasers and RS200s as well as two teams of the locally based class of EODs.

ISO Open - Calshot SC (25th & 26th September 2010)

Remember Winter ? Well it arrived on Saturday 25^th to welcome the ISOs to Calshot. Bright sun and a cold Northerly F4 tempted the dry suits out of Summer storage and back into action.

The start line provided a short beat to the in shore marks with Commodore Dave and Rachel in 1002 leading the pack around home waters. Bob and Duncan in 814 gave chase along with Colin and Alison in Serenity with Rob, returning to racing after almost 2 years knee injury, with sister Liz as crew. A newly purchased ISO decided to stay ashore in the rather gusty conditions.

To summarize what was an excellent event,

Day 1:

20 ISO's turned up from 4 different countries. Although 815 pulled out 3 straight wins, it was clear the Italians had figured out how to sail the ISO. Full day report...

Day 2:

The report for day 2 was lost in cyber space between Italy and England. But as we are summarising,

Wonderful conditions on garda for the second day of races, and 3 more races concluded with three wins for Mike Lillywhite & Mark Riddington (GBR 815).

Good results also for the italian team Marco Monciardini-Matteo Moscatelli (ITA 1200) who reach the second place in the overal standing with two seconds and a third. To be metioned also the good performance of Lorenzo and Emiliano Guidolin (ITA 1157), leading most of race 4 and only surrending to the regatta leader only in the end of the race, and the reliable performance of Gatti brothers (ITA 1195) , always in the top of the fleet with no black-outs.

Day 3:

Stronger winds, 815 pulled out a fluke and won a race after restarting due to them being ocs. Full day report...

Day 4:

Too much wind, then no wind, lots of bobbing around on the water trying to get a race in, all abandoned for the rest of the day. 815 feel like rockstars - autographing buoancy aids for the locals! Full day report...

ISO Europeans Day 4

Day 4 - this is a brief summary from the text message I received:
The day started with loads and loads of wind. Everyone stayed ashore waiting for it to die down a little. It did. Everybody launched. A couple of attempts were made to start a race but there was now no wind at all. After 2 hours or so, racing was cancelled for the rest of the day as a huge storm was en-route to the race course.

So the overall winners of the 2010 ISO Europeans, with a very convincing scoreline of 1st's, was 815, Team Rooster Sailing, Mike Lillywhite and Mark Riddington from Emsworth Slipper SC

ISO Europeans Day 3

Day 3 of the ISO euros started with stronger winds coming down the lake causing concerns amongst some teams.

With another excellent course set by the race officer race 7 got away with 815 taking the lead by the first mark but very closely followed by 688 sailing flat and fast.
